Pen & Fairway, est. 2026. Bespoke journals for remarkable places.

We write and design journals for places that deserve attention: a walking golf course, a historic hotel, a property with a story worth keeping. Each is produced by a fine book printer on paper made for writing, with a cover designed to be held.
A keepsake for the people who paid attention.

Commission a Journal

We work with one club, hotel or estate at a time and write the journal from the ground up. Your guests take home something that could only have come from you.

  1. Visit

We walk the course or stay on the property, and gather its history from the people who know it best.

  2. Write

Every introduction, hole note and prompt is written for your place alone, in a voice that suits it.

  3. Design

Covers, scorecards and interior pages are set in the house style and approved by you.

  4. Print

Each edition is produced by a specialist book printer to a luxury standard, with careful choices of paper, cover and finish. Finished journals arrive ready for the pro shop, the front desk or the guest room.

The Authors

Kim and Alan Phillip

Alan Phillip

Author of The Walk. Alan writes the way he plays: plainly, warmly, and with patience for the ground under his feet. His journals honor the walking game and leave the reader to find their own way around it.

Kim Phillip

A writer of literary nonfiction, Kim is at work on The Cultivated Traveler, a travel memoir. A Cultivated Journey grew out of her writing process for the book. Her journals are for the places people remember long after they leave, made to be kept.
